University's Official Emblem

On April 5, 1968, the University's official emblem was unveiled: Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology, was chosen for the seal. Dr. Millican explained that the Pegasus design was chosen "because it so completely spans the centuries. It is as old as Asia Minor itself, where the myth was supposed to have originated, and as futuristic as tomorrow's space exploration."
Pegasus, it was explained, as the mythological winged horse of the muses, carried their hopes, inspirations, and their poetry to the skies. The great horse belonged to Minerva, the goddess who watched over heroes and gave wisdom and skill to all those who truly wished it.
The seal also tied in with FTU's theme of "reach for the stars." The seal showed Pegasus with a single star, depicting the ultimate goal. The theme "reach for the stars" was an admonition and a challenge to today's young people to strive for the outer limits of their abilities. The Seal of Florida Technological University

The seal of Florida Technological University features PEGASUS, the famous winged horse from the days of Greek mythology and earlier.
PEGASUS was the mythological winged horse of the muses. He carried their hopes, their inspirations, and their poetry to the skies. The great horse belonged to Minerva, the grey-eyed goddess who watched over heroes and gave wisdom and skill to all those who truly wished it.
The PEGASUS design was chosen because it so completely spans the centuries. It is at least as old as Asia Minor itself, from which the myth of PEGASUS is thought to have originated; as futuristic as tomorrow's space exploration in our solar system and into the universe beyond. This seal design bridges the gap between the humanities and space technology.
The motto, "Reach for the Stars," is a challenge to today's young people to strive for the outer limits of their abilities. (Source: Student Handbook 1968-69 - Florida Technological University, Orlando, Florida.)
